Culinary Cowgirl Yoga

Women’s Yoga, Food and Wine, and Horseback Riding Retreat in Marin County, California

Namaste and Bon Appétit!

Big Sky Yoga Retreats is excited to bring culinary-crazy cowgirls together for our first "get up and go” riding retreat for experienced equestrians in Northern California’s “Foodie Heaven". Space is limited - only 8 spots are available.

If you believe in the magical power of food to nourish, heal, and connect people, this retreat is for you. We partner with renowned culinary educator Dory Kwan for an exquisite weekend soaking up the California sun on our yoga mats, hopping between food and wine destinations for private tastings and workshops, daily horseback riding, and making memories that feed our souls.

Our backdrop for this culinary adventure is West Marin, California. Our private yoga farm house awaits at Toluma Farms, a 160-acre organic working sheep/goat dairy and farmstead creamery just miles from Dillon Beach and Point Reyes National Seashore Park.

A Yoga Retreat That Feeds Your Soul

Foodie cowgirl yoginis unite for this 4-night retreat in the heart of California’s culinary country. We’ve added an extra day to our usual long weekend retreat, in order to take Cowgirl Yoga to new heights.

Join us for an unforgettable sojourn in West Marin (aka “Foodie Heaven”), a bucolic farming community in coastal Marin County, California, famous for its farm-to-table lifestyle. Surrounded by some of the country’s finest restaurants, wineries, and culinary hot spots (like Cowgirl Creamery), this retreat will have you begging for seconds.

At our charming home base (Toluma Farms & Tomales Farmstead Creamery), we’ll practice daily Vinyasa and restorative yoga on the lush lawns and in the cozy, modern farm house of our 160-acre organic working farm. Yes, there will be plenty of sheep and goats. And, yes, they love yogini hugs!

Then, we’ll whisk you away for private tastings and behind the scenes tours, interspersed with interactive mini “Alchemy of Taste” workshops teaching palate development, and food & wine pairing theory.

And did we mention the “get up and go” riding? Experienced riders only please, as we will cover lots of ground and lots of gaits on our three riding days. Our longest ride will be 6 hours.

On this retreat, you'll enjoy:

Farm House Lodging

Spend four nights in our own modern farmhouse at Toluma Farms, where we will enjoy plenty of hands on goat time and are welcome to help with milking and herding.

Daily Yoga Classes

Build body and mind self-awareness and openness through daily vinyasa on the farm's lush lawns (weather permitting) and in our cozy farm house. Plus daily meditation, intention setting and journaling.

Tastings & Tours

Enjoy culinary tours and tastings at Cowgirl Creamery, Heidrun Meadery, and Straus Family Creamery.

The Alchemy of Taste

Indulge your senses in a series of mini workshops teaching palate development and food & wine pairing theory, as we taste our way through local fare on this one-of-a-kind culinary journey.

Farm-to-Table Dinners

Following our daytime culinary tours and tastings, enjoy farm-to-table dinners at Rocker Oysterfellers, Nick's Cove and other local eateries.

Exclusive Wine Tastings

We will enjoy a very unique tasting wth wine historian Sean Thackrey at Thackrey & Co., and have a chance to sip and savor wines from Balo Vineyards, where we host our Yoga & Vineyard retreat.

Mindfulness Practice

Experience how mindfulness cultivates a heightened appreciation of food and drink.

Horseback Riding

Add Cowgirl to Culinary, during three breathtaking horseback rides through woods, valleys and ridges to the beach, and the magnificent Point Reyes National Seashore . NOTE: Riding experience is required for this retreat. We specifically ask that you be comfortable at all three gaits, at speed; have an independent seat, and soft hands; are experienced riding on open trails, outside of the arena, and comfortable with Western tack.

  • Nothing - absolutely nothing - counts here but the palate. Everything depends on the quality of its pleasures, just as the greatness of a painting depends on the quality of the pleasures of the painter’s eye, and the greatness of a poem on the quality of the pleasures of a poet’s ear. Nothing should deceive a winemaker into thinking otherwise about what matters in wine.

    Sean Thackrey, Thackrey & Co.

  • One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.

Toluma Farms & Tamales Farmstead Creamery

Settle in for peace and quiet, laughs, and lots of cute animal cuddles at this 160-acre working dairy and creamery. Featuring a beautiful farmhouse surrounded by stunning pastures and rolling hills, no wonder this venue is unique. We’re only three miles from Dillon Beach and ten miles from the Point Reyes National Seashore — and just a stone’s throw from all the artisanal cheese and fluffy, cud-chewing sheep (and goats) your heart can handle.

The Alchemy of Taste

Led by renowned culinary educator Dory Kwan, “The Alchemy of Taste” is a series of mini-workshops presented as we taste our way from oysters and cheese to wine and mead on this one-of-a-kind culinary journey.

During this interactive tasting experience, you will learn how to experience the most enjoyment from wine, discover and explore your personal palate, build a “taste memory library,” and learn to pair food perfectly with wine.
