Cowgirls vs. Cancer

Yoga and horses retreat for cancer kickin’ cowgirls in Clyde Park, MT

Our priority is keeping our cancer-kickin' cowgirls safe and healthy. That's why Cowgirls vs. Cancer is temporarily on hold due to COVID-19. Watch this space for future updates.

Breast cancer has touched too many of our mothers, sisters, and friends. That's why we created Cowgirls vs. Cancer, a one-of-a-kind scholarship retreat and 501(c)3 designed to provide solace, rejuvenation, and healing for women battling breast cancer. Thanks to our amazing partners, we've been able to give scholarships to 75+ yoginis, who are all-too-familiar with the physical, emotional, and financial toll of breast cancer, so they can experience holistic healing through yoga and horses in the wilds of Montana.

Plus, we're delighted to be recognized as one of's 2017 honorees! (Watch our video here).

  • Yoga and horses can fix anything. They're kind of like duct tape and string.

    Tanya, Cowgirls vs. Cancer 2010

  • Atop a horse, I am running again. I am a healthy 34 year old with cancer left behind, moving through the world with strength, agility and beauty. My yoga mat has become my "cancer-free zone,” my little spot in the universe where cancer can not enter but where love, calm and peace are always found. This weekend has given me joy, connection, hope, and relit my spirit. I'm leaving with a renewed belief in my healing through cancer.

    Jennie, Cowgirls vs. Cancer 2016

  • The C vs C crew gave us an opportunity to heal and allow ourselves time to just breathe in the joy of being alive. When I left Montana, I brought home a great big "saddlebag" full of incredible gifts: love and self-acceptance, renewed appreciation for the beauty of nature, the healing power of yoga, horses, and wonderful healthy food.

    Lynn, Cowgirls vs. Cancer 2014

  • Thank you Margaret and everyone on your team at Big Sky Yoga Retreats, for the gifts of time and care, healing yoga and connection with horses, and simple joys. You renewed our spirits and heightened our appreciation of life’s tiny-but-enormous moments. Thank you Cowgirls vs. Cancer compatriots, for your friendship and for sharing your honest, unedited selves. You taught me and lifted me up. Thank you Montana, for providing a natural haven that fostered it all.

    Sarah, Cowgirls vs. Cancer 2016

  • After treatment, I didn't think I'd ever get to be around horses again. So, when I touched Java's nose, the tears flowed. The grief I had pushed down so deep bubbled to the surface...then floated away into that big beautiful Montana sky. Being reunited with my beloved horses and brought back to my yoga mat are gifts I'll cherish for the rest of my life.

Becky , Cowgirls vs. Cancer 2017

  • These past few days, I fell in love. I fell in love with the mountains, fresh air, and sunshine. I fell in love with nurturing my body with delicious, beautiful meals, warm tea, meditation, yoga and horses. I fell in love with all the amazing women whose spirits and stories have touched my heart in ways I will never be able to explain. I fell in love with all of the incredible, loving and giving people who worked so hard to make this very much needed retreat possible.
