When Margaret first called Larry Stanley to ask if he’d be interested in photographing yoga and horses, he responded with his customary curiosity and creativity. He’s been the official Big Sky Yoga Retreats photographer ever since.
“Regardless of what I’m shooting, my motivation is the same; capturing ‘beauty… as it occurs naturally,’” says Larry. “Love life and enjoy the view!”
Larry captures horse-human moments at Dude Ranch Cowgirl Yoga, and he co-created the Cowgirl Yogatography retreat that combined yoga and learning how to photograph horses.
He runs a successful wedding photography business called Montana Wedding Photographer and has a studio in Livingston, just ‘over the Pass’ from Bozeman. Seeing and capturing natural moments of life with his camera is more than a profession – it’s his way of life.
“Special moments occur daily, and they’re fleeting, poignant, and often elusive,” says Larry. “These moments are my life’s breath, and I take refuge in them.”
His inspiration and love of photography largely stems from his circuitous route of living, studying, and traveling across Missouri, Colorado, California, Hawaii, Australia, Philippines, China, and Tibet. Larry studied Engineering at University of Missouri at Kansas City and Photography at The Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA.
