Climb Your Way to Namaste

Equal parts activity and rejuvenation, our days will focus on deepening your yoga practice, replenishing your mind and spirit, and nourishing your body with gourmet local fare. And you’ll need the nourishment because we’ll be exploring the best peaks Patagonia has to offer by foot and hoof. Our horses are Criollos (“Mestizos”), a sturdy native breed that combines Friesians, Quarter Horses, Percherons, and Appaloosa and are perfectly suited to the rough mountain countryside…and snuggles.

But, don’t worry. There’s plenty of “down time” to recharge, journal, and enjoy our stunning surroundings.

NOTE: This retreat is not for total beginner riders; we recommend some riding experience and/or riding lessons to prepare. If you have been with us on Cowgirl Yoga before, you are qualified!

We will have both an advanced and a more intermediate riding group on this trip. Advanced riders should be comfortable in the saddle (at all gaits) for 3-4 hours at a time and riding through semi-steep terrain. You will be amazed at how much your seat improves after a week of riding like a gaucho!

You should also be fit enough to hike 3-4 hours at a time through varied terrain. Our longest hike will be a full day, with plenty of rest stops and a lunch break.

On this retreat, you'll enjoy:

Luxury Lodging

Spend seven nights in lavish quarters at "La Casa Moderna", a private house at the Arelauquen Golf and Country Club in the heart of Patagonia.

Daily Yoga Classes

Build body and mind self-awareness and openness through daily vinyasa classes (indoor and outdoor).

Mount Pontoneros Ride

Saddle up for a half-day up Mt. Pontoneros and be rewarded with amazing views of Gutierrez Lake, the Andes, Mt. Catedral, and surrounding lakes.

Haneck Family Ranch Ride

Dust off your boots for a half-day ride through the Ñirihuau River Valley, native wetlands, and breathtaking views of the Andes under the watchful eyes of Andean Condors and other local fauna.

Patagonian Steppe Ride

Enjoy a capstone full-day ride through valleys, mountains, rivers, beech forests, steppe, and cattle-breeding ranches followed by a gourmet picnic lunch on the trail.

Gourmet Meals & Wines

Enjoy daily gourmet fare native to Patagonia and prepared by our private chef, as well as picnic fare during hikes and rides with local meats, vegetables, fruits, eggs, cheeses, breads, and beverages. (Dietary needs will be accommodated!)

Mindfulness Exercises

Learn how to be more mindful and appreciative of the adventure of travel through meditation, intention-setting & journaling.

Cerro Campanario Hike

Our half day hike (the other half of the day will be spent shopping!) has one of the best views of Bariloche.

Refugio Frey Hike

Lace up your hiking boots for this full-trek, one of the most popular in the Andes. Rewarding views of jagged mountain peaks above the dense forest line, pristine lakes, and a quirky refuge at the top make Refugio Frey a must do. Located in the Nahuel Huapi National Park, you’ll cross streams over bridges, smell the clean fresh scent of the trees, and enjoy a full day on foot outdoors.

Catamaran Sail

Paired with our Cascada Frey Hike, we'll board a private catamaran in Bahía López harbor and explore Brazo Tristeza of Nahuel Huapi Lake, a deep glacial fjord surrounded by mountains and waterfalls and only accessible by boat. Navigating between López Hill and Capilla Hill and along the coasts of Brazo, you'll see rainforests, beaches, and rock formations formed by 5,000-year-old glaciers.

Cascada Frey Hike

Our catamaran will drop us off near majestic Mount Tronador, and we'll hike to the breathtaking Arroyo Frey waterfall. Nestled in the heart of ancient woods, you'll fall in love with this idyllic destination. Once we've worked up an appetite, we'll return to the boat for lunch on the water.

  • Entering into the great room of our Casa Moderna, the view takes your breath away - a teal blue lake and majestic mountains. Our yoga room is just below, and we practice as the sun rises, and maybe have to pause to marvel at a rainbow forming. The evening happy hours are delightful tidbits of food, wine and stories from the day, and airdropping pictures. It would have been an amazing trip with just yoga and that view and that house and that food, and oh! the people! - 10 inspiring women, all open to these challenging and exciting experiences…but there is so much more. We are welcomed into the family at each ranch, introduced to our gauchos and horses and we ride for hours, up a mountain and through a forest and fields, across a stream or a beach, into the lake and beside a cliff. And any description of this trip would not be complete without mentioning our last hike: a full-day trek that reminds me to appreciate what it means to make a commitment, and how yoga has taught me to calm the chaos of the mind, so that my thoughts don’t turn to fears, and we walk and talk (with some rock-scrabbling thrown in) and finish the hike with once-in-a-lifetime views of the top of Mt. Tronador, and remember that yoga is good for the mind, the body, and the soul.

  • There were so many "once-in-a-lifetime" moments on this retreat! Each horseback ride was long and not short on epic scenery, at one moment you may be climbing a mountain overlooking a waterfall, and the next you are galloping through the desert...all topped off with a traditional, home cooked meal at the family's ranch. Our evening dinners were a culinary delight, accompanied by great conversation, tons of laughter and of course, delicious Malbec. I have travelled extensively and this is my third Cowgirl Yoga Retreat, and can say without a doubt - it was my absolute favorite!

  • Yoga, Hiking and Horseback riding in Patagonia sounds amazing, but experiencing it was absolutely phenomenal. The people of Bariloche are incredibly warm and welcoming, the scenery is breathtaking and the food, beer and wine are outstanding. Every detail of the retreat was meticulously planned and was an experience I’ll never forget.

  • The Patagonia Cowgirl Yoga and Hiking Retreat was nothing short of magical. The scenery is amazingly gorgeous and it’s impossible to resist a sense of peace and serenity in these surroundings. The three different horseback riding expeditions allowed us to experience different horses, riding terrains and gauchos. One of my all time favorite moments was getting to run on the horses; it was truly one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life, and one I won’t ever forget!

Big Sky Yoga Retreats go big with all their getaways, highlighting how the great outdoors can wake us up to our inner riches. At the heart of their retreat ethos is this Joseph Campbell quote: “The goal of life is to make your heartbeat match the beat of the universe, to match your nature with nature.” ...this once-in-a-lifetime expedition into the wilds of Patagonia promises to delight.
